• I’ve attempted to install wordpress a while ago and came across many difficulties. After some time I decided to uninstall it by simply trashing the folder containing all files installed (which was advised on this board). Ever since then, my website has become useless. I can no longer upload files to the public html directory, or edit html files and view the changes at their regular addresses. My index.html no longer shows up as well. When going to my original site https://www.akaiten.com the cgi bin appears instead of the original index.html page. If there are any remedies to this or if anyone has had this kind of experience, please assist and it will be much appreciated. Even my hosting service has no idea how to fix it. I’m stuck with a website that doesn’t function properly. Please help me to fix this situation. Thank you so much in advance.

  • So you can’t upload or download files via your FTP account?
If your hosting company can’t figure out how to fix your account, you need a new host – honestly. All you need is a fresh user account if you just want to start over – they should be able to help you start over.

Uploading through ftp does work but, editing html files or uploading files manually through the file manager doesn’t work. I could very well just use an ftp program, but I feel uneasy knowing that there’s something wrong with my website. Unfortunately, they claimed that they can’t reset the settings nor give me a fresh user account. Stay away from surpasshosting.com. They also don’t accept phone calls. Ridiculous.

Do you know for sure that your regular web pages are still there?
Web servers are normally set to display a particular page as the home page (usually index.html, index.htm, default.htm, etc.); this is usually set by the web host.
The page that’s displaying as the “home page” at your site means that the specified home page does not exist and is a substitute page showing links to what’s in that directory. My guess is that the home page got deleted along with WordPress, or the default home page needs to be respecified. If it’s the second option, have your web host help you.
It also sounds like you’re creating your regular website pages through a database or some type of interface. Assuming you made backups of your regular website before installing/deleting WordPress, just upload the website again.
I know it’s a little late to learn this, but:
    Backups — always, always, always.

Looking at your site index it does appear that you’ve trashed EVERYTHING bar a couple of graphics!! Not a good start. Does your host supply you with a “website management” tool? I ask because many, as in my case, have a recycle bin where deleted files may be kept for up to a week or more. If so you may be able to restore them then do a more “controlled” delete of what you don’t want. Failing that it looks to me like you will have to start again from scratch. Do you have any original files on your PC that you can use?

My hosting service claimed that they restored my database from months back. But, problems still continue to persist. It’s not that my homepage isn’t redirecting to my index.html that’s the problem (although it should in the first place), but rather no changes appear on the site whether i create a new html page and build one up or upload an image through the file manager and not the ftp client. So basically I can’t edit any html and have the changes show up or I can’t upload an image myself and have that show up. The two remaining images on the database shown on the cgi-bin are files uploaded by my web hosting service. They claim that something is terribly wrong with my database but uploading files works fine on their part. They then assumed that it was my web browser (Firefox 0.9.3) that was the problem, but I have the same problems with IE.

The database has nothing at all to do with your web files.
It sounds like you are uploading to the wrong place maybe ?
Is there any file at all you can see from the web browser ?
Can you upload anything – a simple text file – to the same place as the florida image ?
