webpage – not blog

I have set up a site and I am having trouble understanding the codes. I am totally new to them. I want my site to look like a home page, not a blog. I will not be using the homepage for a blog page. I can’t seem to remove the comment areas or change the color, font and type. I also want to remove the dates on the site from when I entered my info. Can anyone help me? I have been trying to work this out for a few days to no avail.
