I just created a web story using the “Web Stories by Google” plugin.

After publishing the Story, AMP testing shows two errors:

    1. The parent tag of tag ‘html’ is ‘$root’, but it can only be ‘!doctype’.

    2. The mandatory tag ‘html !doctype’ is missing or incorrect.

I’ve cleared cache in a caching plugin and also with my host.

I have no idea how to fix this, any ideas?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello @jdqu8c5 thanks for reaching out. I can see the validation errors you are referring to. This could be the result of a plugin conflict so could you please provide the following information:

Your Site Health information or You can share privately if you prefer via this form.

Once I have this information I will be able to help you with next steps.

Thanks Adam, I’ve just submitted the site health data for you.

@jdqu8c5 thanks for providing the information. I can see that you are using the Ezoic plugin on your site. We have seen previous instances where this plugin can cause these validation errors you are getting on your stories.

Could you please try and disable the Ezoic plugin and check your stories again to see if this clears the validation errors?

    Hey hey, that fixed it.

    Many thanks!

@jdqu8c5 Glad to hear it! If you are enjoying using Web Stories and have some spare time we’d love to hear your thoughts on the plugin with a review.

    Hi Adam,

On a different website I’m now seeing these errors:

    – Missing URL in HTML tag amp-story
    – Error in required structured data element

I’ve removed the Ezoic plugin and cleared the cache everywhere I can.

Also going ahead and sending you the site health report now too ???

@jdqu8c5 please would you be able to open a new support topic for this where we can assist you further.
