Web Story AMP Issue

2. Have the stories always had these AMP validation errors as far as you are aware or has this happened recently?

@vasiled thanks for passing on the information. I can’t see anything standing out here so it would be good at this point to rule out any potential theme or plugin conflict. To do this, could you please follow the steps below:

Use the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin and enable its troubleshooting mode. This mode disables active plugins and switches to a default theme safely because it only affects the experience of the logged-in user.

• Please enable the Web Stories plugin and let me know if you still get the issue.
• Enable plugins and your theme one by one in this mode may help pinpoint if something else is involved.
• Note you can disable troubleshooting mode from the plugins page.

These steps will not affect what a user to your site will see while testing this. Let me know how you get on here and if you have any questions.

Hi, I get the same two errors:
1.The parent tag of tag ‘html’ is ‘$root’, but it can only be ‘!doctype’.
2.The mandatory tag ‘html !doctype’ is missing or incorrect.
I did step by step what you asked me to do but nothing changes.

@vasiled If you temporarily disable your Rank Math plugins and run your story through AMP validation once more do you see the same errors? Could you also confirm this with the Ezoic plugin?

I wouldn’t see any difference if I disabled the Rank Math and Ezoic plugins.
Interestingly, all web stories that Google last crawled until March 20 (17 stories) have no errors, and those who last crawled after March 21 (31 stories) all have these two errors.

@vasiled Would you be able to provide an example url of a story that isn’t returning the AMP errors as you mentioned?

@vasiled And if you could temporarily disable your Rank Math and Ezoic plugins that would be very helpful for some checks I can run on my side. If you could let me know when these are disabled I will perform some checks and once done you can re-activate these.

@vasiled thank you for your patience and assistance with this. If you leave those plugins deactivated for now and run this story trough https://search.google.com/test/amp using an Incognito window does the story now pass AMP validation for you?

Yes, Web Story in Valid in an incognito window and I managed to get indexed in Google Search, which I haven’t been able to before, it was giving me an error.

@vasiled Okay this does look like a conflict with one of the disabled plugins in this case. Try activating one of the plugins and checking this way again in a new Incognito window to identify which plugin it is.

There may be a particular setting in one of the plugins causing this so you could try then switching particular settings off one by one to find a possible cause.

I would also recommend once the plugin has been identified to try reaching out to that plugins support team who may be able to help you identify the cause and help you with a fix or workaround.

This is the Ezoic plugin due to which errors appear and which I installed around the time it all started.
I have two more Web Stories that I can’t get indexed on Google and that didn’t pass the Web Story test in the incognito window:

@vasiled Nice work and that confirms it with the timeline also. Both stories are passing validation for me when checking so this could be caching on your side.
