Web stories tracking via Site kit for GA4
-
When site kit will enable support for GA4 tracking for web stories?
-
Hi?@luckyankit thanks for getting in touch. Site Kit places the code required for the modules you connect such as Analytics and Tag Manager. There is not currently any configuration possible from the plugin for Web Stories event tracking with GTM or Analytics.
We do have an open GitHub issue related to enhancing Analytics event tracking from the plugin so please feel free to subscribe to this for updates.
You can implement event tracking manually if you wish but this falls out of the scope of the Site Kit support we can offer. I would recommend checking in with the?Analytics Help Center?as well as the?GTM Help Center?for more help and information on this.
Is there anything else I can help you with?
@luckyankit Just wanted to drop a follow up comment here to check with you if you are asking about GA4+AMP support rather than Web Stories event tracking?
Not for GA4+AMP, but Web-stories only. Since after installing Site kit, the manual configuration of configuring analytics in Web-stories goes away, so I wanted to ask, if the analytics tracking using GA4 via Site Kit is working for web-stories or not? I checked today, stories are still loading GA3 code for analytics.
Also, it would be great, if Site kit can allow adding different analytics for web-stories only. I know 100s of bloggers, and none of them want to use same analytics for site and stories.@luckyankit If you are having troubles manually entering your GA4 property in the Web Stories settings then I’d suggest reaching out to the Web Stories support team who will be able to assist further with this.
Web Stories and Site Kit both support GA4 so there shouldn’t be any issues tracking your Stories with GA4 but if you still face issues with Analytics tracking you can check the Analytics Help Center for more assistance. Thanks for the suggestion for Web Story specific Analytics I will be sure to pass this on to the team.
Is there anything else I can help you with?
I am not sure if you understand my query correctly. As per web stories, it is Site Kit, which is taking care of the tracking of web-stories.
And site kit presently is adding GA-3 tracking code to the web-stories, not GA4.

So my question is, when Site Kit will switch web-stories tracking to GA4.
@luckyankit Apologies for the confusion here and thanks for explaining. Currently, Site Kit does not output the GA4 property for Web Stories because Web Stories are built on AMP, which until recently did not support GA4. This has now changed and we will be updating this very soon.
Once updated the GA4 tag ID will be added for AMP, which would include Web Stories. Once this is updated for Site Kit I will post an update here for you.
Thanks for answering that. Also, in future, will it be possible to use a different GA4 property for web-stories? I have seen people don’t want to have same property for site and stories as it mess up the stats for them. Even the ad companies says same to them.

@luckyankit There are no plans at this time to implement this on the Site Kit side but feel free to also reach out to the Web Stories team to ask about this on their side. Is there anything else I can help with?
okay thank you.
