• I just got a Hostgater domain and WordPress website. I made my 4 pages and finally figured out how to put up a menu – and listed the pages across the top. BUT – when i view the website – it does not bring up my “main page” (which has the menu).

How do I make my “main page” (with menu’s across the top) come up? I can’t figure out how to do that.

Also – how can I get rid of “recent comments”, “archives” “categories” – which i do not need or want (on my website)?

    thank you

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • You have to set up a static page:

    Go to Settings > Reading

Choose “A Static Page” and then, right below, select your main page.

Thanks. There is no “static page” setting on the “reading” page and no place to pick your “main page” – but – I did go into “general settings” – and set the “site address” pointer to the page that I wanted – and that worked.

How can I get rid of the recent comments, archives, categories, meta tags….that show up on my website page?

These are configured in widgets, probably called META.
Find them in Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets
Be sure to save your changes.

Also an easy trap with menus is to create and configure the menu, but not set the menu location, be sure to check this.

I got rid of the widgets….THANK YOU!!!

But now – none of the other pages come up!
I made sure they were all linked properly. They used to come up. But after deleting the widgets – only the main page comes up.

    gggrrr…..

    How did that possibly happen???

Published Date/Time not changing. When I make a change to a page – and publish it – the date/time published does not change.

    Why?

also – i still can’t get my other pages to come up (from my main menu). they used to – before I deleted the widgets on the sidebar (that I did not need).

    Help….. please….

I just went to “Edit” a page – and hit “preview changes” – and it brought up my Main Page – not the page that I was editing.

Can anyone explain what is going on all of a sudden?

I just tried adding a new page – and when I went to “preview” it – it did not show the page that i had just created – but it showed my main page.

Any ideas on what is going on?
