Web site not loading

  • I am getting the following error when I load my web site at https://www.syzygy-co.com : Internal Server Error

    The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. 500 Internal Server Error

    Worked with Go Daddy over weekend they sent me the following message:

    The 500 error you are experiencing is most likely caused by coding or scripting. Unfortunately, because we do not provide coding support, we are unable to determine what specifically in your code may be causing the error. I have however been able to upload .html and .php scripts to your hosting account and have confirmed that your account is able to handle both of these file types. It appears that the issue is likely within the configuration of your WordPress application or within the scripting of one of the files that runs the WordPress application.

    You may wish to review your code to determine if there are any issues, because it appears that is the most likely cause of the error. You may also wish to enable detailed error messages as a temporary diagnostic measure. The procedure for this will vary, depending on the scripting language being used. We also recommend consulting both the vendor’s online documentation, as well as the large number of online forums dedicated to coding and scripting.

    They told me to start with plug-ins. When I looked, my 3 plugins were deactivated:

    The plugin all-in-one-seo-pack/all_in_one_seo_pack.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

    The plugin google-analyticator/google-analyticator.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

    The plugin pagemash/pagemash.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

    I have since upgraded to WordPress 3.0, and reinstalled my three plugins that I use on my site. Still not working. I tried to deactivate the plug-ins, leaving up only one (or none), to see if I could single out a plug-in causing the problem, but to no success. Not sure where to turn now.

    One other point, I am using the OpenAir theme.

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    We have been able to narrow this down to the the Open Air theme, by changing to the default theme. We’re now uninstalling from Go Daddy server and reinstalling the theme to see if we can bring it back up. Crossing my fingers. Has anyone had problems with Open Air going down? (especially when the server went down to begin with?)

    Wow – days later – here’s the outcome. We did as I mentioned above, and the site came up, however, the 3 columns in the middle of the page on this theme weren’t showing up. As soon as I selected columns to show up on the home page, it went back to delivering the same error as above. I turned the middle columns off, and the site is functional again.

    Why would this theme’s columns break the site? Any suggestions here?

    It might if the theme in question was designed for an older version of WP. Usually these are caused by a function. You could look at the theme’s function.php and look for anything related to 3 columns.
