• First and foremost, I cannot create an account on the Weaver Xtreme support forum. I have no idea why. The page just keeps reloading when I try to create an account. And you cannot post for help there unless you have an account. Much as I love Weaver Xtreme, we will probably move off of it because they won’t monitor this forum regularly and make it hard for you to get support on THEIR forum.

Secondly, we don’t use the Jetpack Mobile Theme. On every site where we are running Weaver Xtreme we have been seeing popup nag boxes that tell us to disable the Jetpack Mobile Theme. Oddly enough, when we check the Jetpack dashboard, the mobile theme is enabled.

This is only happening on sites where the active theme is Weaver Xtreme. We run many other sites that don’t use Weaver Xtreme and they are not activating their Jetpack mobile themes. I have to conclude there is a problem with Weaver Xtreme.

What’s worse is that deactivating the Jetpack mobile theme has no effect. The popup comes back and when we check the Jetpack dashboard again the mobile theme is active again. As I mentioned above, Jetpack is not magically activating its mobile theme on other sites that use different themes.

Considering I don’t have any reliable way of getting the attention of whomever is taking care of Weaver Xtreme, we’ll probably start moving away from the theme this week. That’s an investment of time which we will always hold against them because they are not monitoring THIS forum (or say they are not).

At this point in time, I am withdrawing all endorsement of the Weaver Xtreme theme. Hate to do that. Loved working with it. But this is unacceptable.

I wrote previously: “What’s worse is that deactivating the Jetpack mobile theme has no effect. The popup comes back and when we check the Jetpack dashboard again the mobile theme is active again.”

Through experimentation I have found that if I wait a few seconds AFTER Jetpack says its settings have been updated the nag dialog box stops reappearing. I would guess about a 3-second delay is working for us. But these sites are on different hosting accounts. I cannot guarantee that every site affected by this problem will fix the issue with as short a waiting period.

This still doesn’t explain WHY the Jetpack mobile theme is being activated when it should not be. The conflict could be the fault of Weaver Xtreme, Jetpack, WordPress, or some other plugin for all I know. But the problem is coming from Weaver Xtreme because its dialog box won’t go away. Getting into the Jetpack settings dashboard is not easy. And I am still not sure this isn’t due to a hack, except that it’s happening on multiple sites on multiple hosting accounts. That would be a pretty widespread hack unless Weaver Xtreme itself were hacked.

My gut instinct says this is not a hack but I’m still fixing sites. I may change my mind.

And a little more information. I have found a FEW older sites where the Jetpack mobile theme was mysteriously activated even though the sites were using different themes (all mobile friendly). It appears that Weaver Xtreme is not activating the Jetpack mobile theme but the nagging popup is only appearing on sites where Weaver Xtreme is installed and active.

Although Weaver Xtreme does not appear to be at fault for activating the Jetpack mobile theme it does appear to be responsible for the unnecessary popup dialog. WordPress has a built-in alert system that allows a plugin or theme to display a message across the top of the admin dashboard. They should have used that method instead of the popup.

I am not revising my critical review of Weaver Xtreme and we will stop using it on these sites as soon as is practical.

First, no one has ever reported an issue with creating an account on the weaver forum, have you tried to do it from a different browser / computer, in case something in the configuration you use had an issue? The proper link is
    https://forum.weavertheme.com/

Also you can send a direct message to the developer to ask for help.
    https://weavertheme.com/support/contact/

I have sent a message to the weaver developer to notify him of that thread.

“when we check the Jetpack dashboard, the mobile theme is enabled.”
Have you tried to ask Jetpack how that could happen? Because I cant see ho the theme could do it, and may be something is corrupted in your jet pack installation.
Have you tried to deactivate and delete Jetpack and reinstall?

As I mentioned above, that makes sense and so you definitely need to contact Jetpack, or try removing and reinstalling.

The reason weaver Xtreme will Nag you, is because the jetpack Mobile theme will break Xtreme responsiveness, so you do need to resolve the issue.

“I am not revising my critical review of Weaver Xtreme and we will stop using it on these sites as soon as is practical.”
You do as you please (Xtreme is one of the most configurable theme and its support forum one of the most responsive of the industry, so it is you loss ultimately ?? ), but you seem to be channeling your frustration at the wrong place, all because you seem to have a faulty plugin or installation, and you had the misfortune to have a bad connection problem with the forum.

It is not possible that Weaver Xtreme has activated the JetPack Mobile theme. That happened some other way.
It is likely that you’ve had all those sites with the JetPack Mobile theme activated that way for a long time. It is only VERY recently that Weaver Xtreme has started issuing that warning, and as scrambler explained, it was for a very good reason. We’ve had numerous people on the support forum report that problem before, and there are no doubt many other users, like you, who had been running with the JetPack mobile theme without realizing it, and thus having their sites look wrong on mobile.

JetPack has recently changed the wording for that option to make it more clear what it does. For a long time the option was labelled “Optimize for mobile sites” or some similar wording that implied optimized deliver, and not a totally different mobile device theme. Optimize sounds good, so we believe many people checked that option, and thus broke their theme’s mobile delivery. (Most modern WP themes have special handling for mobile devices already, so this is not exclusive to Weaver Xtreme. But I would suspect that checking for the JetPack option is not common.)

I can’t explain why you were unable to create a forum account. It is a standard bbPress site running with WordPress.

Don’t have time to respond to all of your replies, so I hope this will suffice.

I tried using two browsers to create an account on your forum (Chrome and Edge). Neither worked. No idea of what happened. Sometimes rebooting my computer helps but I am in the middle of a major project and I don’t have time budgeted for filing and assisting with bug reports.

Second, my frustration is mostly with the popup. I don’t care what your reason for issuing the alert was. You did it in the worst way possible. I had to fight with the browser on multiple sites to get to the Jetpack settings because the popup won’t go away.

Had it not been for the popup I would not have made any complaints at all. So my frustration is directed squarely and solely where it needs to be. I suggest you take the feedback in good faith.

You remark below was a fair one, and hopefully @weaver will take it into consideration ??

It was done as a popup because that seems to be about the only way to get the message for both the Customizer and the Legacy option interface. Because that warning is outside the design of the Customizer, it is really hard to deliver such messages there.

But we will look into an alternative to a popup.
