@jackdavis – You have to set a display_type for the shortcode to work correctly.

    – Cais.

You need to make sure that the display_types are defined in Nextgen/your_WP_database

    Try this:
    https://your_site/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=display_type

If you don’t get the 7 NextGen types displayed (e.g. NextGEN Basic SinglePic), your DB is corrupt for as far as Nextgen is concerned.

See if you can find a backup to restore the post_type=display_type posts.

There is a way to create these manually in phpMyAdmin, but it is not a pretty process.

@peter Kes – Thanks for sharing your testing idea.

I too am receiving “We cannot display this gallery”, which only began to happen after running “WP Optimize” plugin and clearing all cache options. I believe my database is corrupt now.

Been running NGG for almost two years now, never had an issue until now. I have an old backup of my complete site. Which specific file(s) should I restore or which php (location?) should I edit to define the display types properly?

When I enter the link that Peter posted (with our domain/) I receive a blank screen with “Invalid post type”

    Thank you~

    Wow! Umm.. .Crazy simple fix…

I just deactivated NGG Gallery 2.0.79 (latest). Then copied my old plugins>NextGen-Gallery folder (2.0.61) I had backed-up from a year ago and then re-activated the plugin.

All of my galleries load perfectly now! ??

… Now the question is… do I update to 2.0.79 again and hope the issue stays fixed?! :p

@dmpilotwings – I was responding to this line:

If you have any new issues then you should create a new topic for them to be addressed.

    Thanks!

    – Cais.

:p it’s not a new issue… it was a rhetorical question, meant to cause a grin on your face ??

Oh and for any of you wondering, yes, everything works perfect now after the update! A corrupt database can be fixed simply by copying over a “rolled-back” NextGen plugin folder via FTP, and then updating to the latest version via the WP admin panel.

    Issue resolved.

Just adding this in case it helps anyone else who finds this thread on a search for ‘We cannot display this gallery’!

I came across this problem this week when implementing a new Theme for a site. Turns out I was using a custom shortcode for [slideshow], which was somehow conflicting with NextGen’s own shortcodes I guess?

I just renamed my own shortcode & things were back in business. So possibly just check you don’t have any shortcode conflicts?

My own shortcode for [slideshow] was for something totally unrelated to NextGen, which is why it took a while to figure it out!

    Thank you!
After starting the “WP Optimize” plugin gallery is not shown.
Helped install an older version of the gallery.
