I’m using Woocommerce and a theme that has a single shop page, the Product Categories (through menu links) are all outputted on the Shop page (through content templates) even though the URLS are different. As a result, there are no pages associated to the WC Product Categories.

    For example:

    Shop page: https://www.esllessonhandouts.com/library/
    Product category: https://www.esllessonhandouts.com/category/general/

I have set Search Appearance > Taxonomies > Product Categories “Show Product categories in search results?” to YES, but Google Search Console says “Your Sitemap does not contain any URLs. Please validate and resubmit your Sitemap.”

Is there a way to add the 3 Product Category page URLs manually to the Page sitemap so Google crawls them as pages?

    Thank you.

    Hello @speakoutenglish

Thanks for reaching out about your product category. I checked the sitemap index and there’s no product category sitemap. Though you have set in Search Appearance > Taxonomies > Product Categories to “Show Product categories in search results?”, the sitemap was not created. This is because there is no content yet and explains Google Search Console’s report.

Since your product categories are not created in the usual way, Yoast SEO will not automatically detect them. A way to add them is if they are in an external sitemap of their own. If you want to add an external sitemap to your sitemap use the guide here: https://yoast.com/help/add-external-sitemap-to-index/.

    As an addendum…

Yoast SEO analyzes the default WordPress content areas like the title, URL, and the main content box (WordPress editor). Since your product categories are added through the theme content boxes (as most page builders do), Yoast SEO may not be able to detect it by default.

Please understand that page builders commonly use a custom editor designed by their team. Because plugins rely on the default editor, some page builders make the data entered into their editor available in the default editor. Yoast SEO will see and analyze the content as if created with the default editor in these cases. When this is not the case, an integration feature must be available to parse the page builder content into Yoast SEO for analysis.

It’s like opening a room to find a safe inside it. Unless you have the code to unlock the safe, you can only see the inside of the room. You must contact the person who set the unlock code to get the code to open the safe. We have tried to automatically unlock and parse content from other plugins and themes with inferior results in the past. Therefore, we opted to provide an API that developers can use to unlock their content and pass to our page analysis.

Since your theme doesn’t send its content to our page analysis, please contact the author or developer to request an integration feature for better SEO compatibility. Our development team provides information about creating a custom integration?here.

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation.

I have made changes so that the categories are displayed on pages so this should help.
