There is a known issue on some themes that override WooCommerce template files (Flatsome, Genesis theme with Genesis Connect, potentially others).

When using these themes with WC 3.3, product categories are displayed in the shop as if you had chosen the “Show categories & products” display setting regardless of what display setting is selected.

This is due to a behavior change in the way the woocommerce_product_subcategories function behaves and template file changes in 3.3. We will have a fix for this issue on legacy themes or themes that aren’t being actively updated in WC 3.3.1.

If possible, theme developers should update their themes to use the latest versions of the WooCommerce templates. You can see what template files need to be updated in the release post on the developer blog: https://woocommerce.wordpress.com/2018/01/30/woocommerce-3-3-has-been-released/ (Specifically the archive-product.php template)

  • I’m using Flatsome as well. For me it worked. I’m not an expert but know enough to do that.

Appearance > Customise > Additional CSS (towards the bottom of the menu)

Paste it there and Publish. It should go back to normal.

Yeah, you’re probably right. But the authors of Flatsome should have prepared their theme for 3.3. Actually that theme is using outdated files not compatible with WC3.3.

I will not be testing anything. All updates must work. I run a shop not a woo testing centre.

    That’s a bad idea!!!!

Ofcourse you’re not a testing centre, my tip was just that next time you’d better wait a couple of days before updating (and make sure your theme is compatible/updated). And really, you must always have a backup plan before updating. Please note that WordPress installations are not an out-of-the-box product but most of the time combinations of tens of plugins and it’s always possible that something breaks due to incompatibilities between two plugins (or a plugin and a theme).

Put yourself in a position of an average shop/website owner who is not a dev. Spent days months to build his/her website and then with one click all that hard work is messed up.

My website is backed up daily so I’m not worried. Honestly, I do not have even a minute to test anything. Too busy running the business.

Plugin incompatibility is a known problem and very easy to fix most of the time if you know what you are installing. You don’t need any coding, just need to deactivate and test.

Flatsome devs should have tested it properly. I’m not an IT person so do not know what went wrong. Not my job to investigate. They need to audit their procedures perhaps.

@atomikkingdom thank you so much that worked. A little too late but I’m thankful that that someone was able to give me a solution.

I installed the code but on the products page the first row has only one product followed by four products per row after that.

Any ideas how to get four products on the first row?

I have VW ecommerce theme, does anybody know when they will update that theme? My shop is sooo badly messed up…

Have been following this thread but haven’t found a solution to my issue.

Am running The7 theme and the update broke the archive/category pages in that the layout loads the sidebar below the cat images, which are also all vertically aligned. Grid and list switcher doesn’t change anything.

I have rolled back, and also reinstalled 3.2.6 by ftp but to no avail.I have reinstalled the theme templates and I have tried the css fix but nothing changes the archive layout.

For a number of reasons I can’t go back to an old backup so am looking to see if anyone has an idea which file is causing the layout issue and hopefully how to fix. TIA.

    @adoredhair sorry for late reply.
After activation, you will have “Rollback” button for each plugin in your WP panel-> Plugins.
Clicking that button will take you to page where you can choose version to install.

    Cheers

I have updated our themes at ThemeForest with the release of 3.3, then they decide to roll it back!

Why would you even roll it back?

Hi I having uncategorized showing up on my shop page I`m using tyche theme can yo please have a patch for this

guys just use Wp-rollback plugin to rollback your woocommerce version to 3.2.6 until they fix those issues

Re-assign all the products in Uncategorized category to another category and it will disappear. Then rename it to “Unsorted” just to give it a better description.

I understand uncategorized is default, but how can we change another category to default so we can delete this one?

Something to look out for is not just the main theme, but any template overrides that are outdated.

Please read through this Understanding the WooCommerce System Status Report documentation for more details.

With regards to Flatsome and other popular themes, we would hope that third-party developers follow the dev blog and are testing any developer and release candidates.

@atomikkingdom, please be respectful when posting in the forums. I appreciate it isn’t great when your site isn’t functioning as expected so I’m going to link to this response to explain better.

Here’s the thing: WordPress isn’t a commercial company and blaming a free opensource project isn’t appropriate. You are responsible for your site and no one else is.

Substitute WordPress for WooCommerce and the message is still the same.

If you don’t have time or expertise to ensure your site is updated correctly and has no conflicts, I would strongly recommend having an experienced WooCommerce developer on hand to help out. There are many many companies and freelancers out there who do this on a daily basis for businesses.

    > Flatsome devs should have tested it properly. I’m not an IT person so do not know what went wrong. Not my job to investigate.

Totally, but they may not be focusing on WooCommerce, and if they don’t declare WooCommerce support in the theme, this isn’t something they “need” to provide support or testing for.

We absolutely appreciate everyone’s patience with this one. If your theme is 100% up to date, talk to the theme author to ensure they are aware of the dev blog, and see if they can look at enhancing WooCommerce compatibility.

The team introduced better theme support in 3.3 as a way for us to help store owners choose a theme they wanted, independent of WooCommerce declared support.

There isn’t a default category when creating a new product in WooCommerce. You can read more in the taxonomy documentation.

best to speak to the theme author.
