Way too many issues

    I’ve been a paying pro user since 2018. I’ve gone through one major upgrade, and now with 6.0 I’m struggling my way through another.

    Both times they significantly broke my site. I don’t think they have heard the term “backwards compatible” in their office.

    Just running the migrate to update to the new version horribly breaks my site. As I’m working through trying to fix it I continue to run into bugs. Either bugs, or cases where the documentation is totally inaccurate. Which is tough, because the documentation is minimal, at best.

    I’m totally done with these jokers. Do yourself a favour and check out Tickera. A fraction of the price, better add-ons, and none of the headaches.

    I’m sorry to hear about the issues you have bumped into with our plugins.

    Backward compatibility is an important question and it is important to us. During the years we maintained backward compatibility as best as we could. There were 2 notable exceptions to this.

    In January 2020, we released The Events Calendar 5.0, which included a substantial redesign of our calendar views (referred to as V2). We supported and maintained both V2 and the pre-5.0 legacy views (“V1”) until August 2021, when we officially ended support for V1. During those 1.5 years, to give a heads-up to our users, we have communicated regularly that support for V1 will stop. We decided to stop supporting V1 because the underlying architecture was outdated and it didn’t make sense to continue with it. Re-working that architecture resulted in V2.

    The other occasion was the current 6.0 release, which we have been planning and working on for a very long time. The old “engine” powering events and recurring events specifically has reached its limits – similarly to V1 – and was limiting the development of some features that have been requested by the community for long.
    Despite our best efforts and thorough testing, not all updates and migrations went smoothly. Since the release, our team has worked hard and made good progress in ironing out the still-existing issues.

    With that said, it is nerve-wracking when a site breaks. We try to avoid that as much as we can. And if it still happens, our team is happy to help.
