    1. Open your WordPress admin
    2. Go to Settings -> Permalinks
    3. Click the radio button next to “Custom Structure” to select it
    4. Enter this into the field:
      /%category%/%postname%.html

    Thanks but some of the files are .htm and some are .html is it possible to set this independently some how for each individual page please?

    You would need to create a custom plugin to do that.

    Why not just do 301 redirects to the new URLs? That would be the simplest solution and won’t harm your search engine rankings.
