I forgot to check “set watermark” for all images….

Where did you find that setting?

Select the gallery under “manage gallery”, then in the drop down menu called “bulk actions” one is “set watermark”. tick the box under that to select all thumbnails or select individual ones, then choose “set watermark” under bulk actions and hit apply.

One annoying thing I found however….when you configure the watermark in the “other options” section, the thumbnail preview image isn’t exactly what it looks like (but its close) and after setting the watermark I wanted to tweak the position and font size but everything you do that, it puts a new watermark on top of the old one so your picture can look like it has multiple watermarks….ugly. Best way around that (but its more work) is to set the watermark to just one image in the gallery and preview that…in order to tweak it I had to use the bulk action called “restore from backup” to give me a clean image, then apply the new watermark to it. Once you’re happy with it, then select all the other images but NOT the one you just did, and apply the watermark to those.

Okay found it… Is restoring from backup the only option if you want to deselect these watermarks?

Well, I don’t know. You could always re-upload the picture. But the point is you’d need somehow a new version of the image because putting a watermark on an image is apparently a permanent choice and cannot be changed.

If you use the the default option under Gallery > Other Options to “Backup the original images?” then you can “reset” the Watermarks by applying the Bulk Action: Recover from backup

I can’t find any options to backup the images. Maybe that’s in the Pro version?

No, its not Pro. On your dashboard, click the category called “other options”. The 1st section under that is called “image options”. Click the arrow to expand that, and the 5th setting down says “Backup the original images?” with a tick button for yes or no. Then hit save at the bottom.

Allright! It’s allready set to Yes there. Does this mean that the original files allways will be restorable or is there a risk that the backups may be overwritten by edited images?

@lensv – The backup created of the original image is made when you upload it. That back up is preserved as it is and solely used for recovery purposes. NextGEN Gallery does not overwrite it although I cannot guarantee something else won’t.
