Wasted a lot of time only for it to not work

  • I wasted over an hour backing up a website, preparing it for migration to another server, only then to receive the warning:

    [critical] – [2024/06/06 07:52:33] – Cannot restore this backup! Free Version doesn’t support site migration and can only restore backups created on the same domain, host and server. Get WP Staging Pro to restore this backup on this website.

    So then, naturally I uploaded the backup to the same server and copied in the link as suggested, only to receive the exact same warning, ending my journey with this plugin.

    Had it have said that in the very beginning I wouldn’t have needed to waste a ton of time doing a pointless exercise. If you’re going to create a plugin that is mostly featureless and only promotes your paid version then don’t bother creating the plugin in the first place.

    We understand how valuable your time is, and I’m truly sorry that the limitation of the free version regarding site migration was not made clear from the start. We will definitely improve our communication within the plugin to ensure users are well-informed about the capabilities and restrictions of the free and PRO versions.

    The free version of WP STAGING plugin still offers some cool features for free:

    • Creating multiple staging sites for testing new plugins/themes and WordPress updates, or debugging technical issues safely.
    • Creating backups of the live and staging sites, just in case something wrong happened on your website, the backup can be restored safely. In addition to the ability to schedule the backup to run at a certain time automatically.

    Thanks. Have the same issue with free verion and spent time trying to debug. The free version will backup or clone the prod (all on same domain, and in a subfolder) as a.b.com/stag1. when we try to access the cloned (staged) site a.b.com/stag1, it is askng for a setup again. I guess we will need the pro version to test and perhaps put in lot of time to verify the push to prod. Dilema.

    No, cloning should work even with the free version. When the install routine of wordpress appears, something else went wrong.
