I am trying a new install of wordpress onto a new host. After following all the instructions provided when I go to install wordpress i get the following.

Warning: require_once(../wp-load.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/a/l/a/alanleonard/html/sitetest/wp-admin.install.php on line 18

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘../wp-load.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php’) in /home/content/a/l/a/alanleonard/html/sitetest/wp-admin.install.php on line 18

I have looked through the forums and see that the answer to most peoples problem is to verify that all the files were correctly and completely uploaded to the host. I have double checked this and have verified that all files do exist.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks ??

I’d consider downloading a fresh copy of WordPress from the Download tab at the top of this page, then use something like 7-Zip to extract the files. Then reupload the files to your host. Review Uploading WordPress to a remote host and make sure you are using ASCII transfer mode in your FTP client.

If you have an .htaccess file, that too could be causing the problem–rename that if necessary.

    Have you solved it already?

I’ve got the almost the same problem on my site, and

I haven’t tried it yet, cuz I’m wondering if a fresh reinstalling would also clear all of my posts ((I didn’t have any backup of my blog)

I’m the same, tried two upzips using two programs, reuploaded 3 times used mozilla and all reported fine. Pretty sure my php is enabled on the server (checking now), the login details are correct and the files are there. But still getting error messages.

Is it a permission problem maybe? I changed the settings to full access on install.php with no luck.

i just tried 2.7 and worked fine, upgrade to 2.7.1 from the dashboard.

    Hi
I am having the same problem. WordPress version 2.8.4
I’ve double checked that all the files were ftp’d successfully and re-uploaded one more time to ensure they’re ok. I changed permissions on the config and admin files to allow execution. I also found that the config file was missing the ‘?>’ at the end and added it. Any help/ideas are very much appreciated as I’ve been stuck on this step for sometime.
    Thanks
    Ziado

I used WordPad to edit the config file and ftp’d using FileZilla. I’ve noticed in some of the PHP files that there is space after ?>

could any of above be causing the problem?
    thanks again

Anyone here able to solve the problem? I am using 2.8.4 – I wonder if this latest version is the problem- please advise..
    thanks

I have the same problem i was told to delete the wordpress single user version i did,

    Deleted the database and files.
Does anyone knows if is okay or I have to keep the single user version for the WordPress MU to function.?

I read on some other website that we should change permissions on all files to allow execution by all groups- I am doing that right now – will let u know if it fixes the problem.

I am about to give up on WordPress. It is not a 5 minute installation, and this coming from someone who’s done programming before. Either the installation documentation is not comprehensive enough, or the new version has issues or I don’t know..
