• I got the “Warning: If you can still read these words after the page finishes loading, then there is a JavaScript or jQuery problem in the site.” error. I have followed the instructions and disabled all plugins and switched the theme but it persists.

I used the inspect tool to check the errors:

    Hi there,

The 403 errors (access forbidden) suggest there are possible file permission problems.
The server understands the requests being made but is just refusing to process them.
You should check the file/folder permissions, you may need to ask hosting for support.

    Best regards,

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

I checked the file permissions in cpanel and some were definitely wrong. I’ve changed all the folders to 755 and all files to 644 but the issue persists. Any other ideas what the issue could be? Thank you!

    Hi Holly,

Thanks for confirming and the update. Are the error messages the same 403 messages?
I’m just wondering if there’s been any change in the errors which may indicate a cause.

If the messages are still 403 (forbidden) you could temporarily disable all other plugins.
That’s a basic plugin conflict test and the disabling of any security plugins may also help.

    Best regards,

    Nick

    Hi Nick,

Yes, exact same errors. I had started out by disabling all plugins, etc. Do you think it’s a good idea to try again?

    Thanks

    Hi Holly,

Thanks for confirming. I’m wondering if you still have console errors with UpdraftPlus disabled.
It’ difficult for me as I don’t have access to your machine and I’m not permitted to do that here.

I’m looking to confirm if the script issues are general or specifically associated with UpdraftPlus.
Can you disable UpdraftPlus and then take a look on any wp-admin page for the console errors?

    Best regards,

    Nick
