    Hello,

My environment: Mac, Chrome, WP 4.5.3, Category Permalink 3.0.3.
Issue is occurring locally and on a production site, but is *not* present on my QA site, which is running Permalink 2.2.8.

    Issue:

I am seeing icons and a post url beneath each post title when I go to ‘View All Posts’ in my dashboard. I have never seen the icons before today. > 90% show a warning, but a few have hearts. I’m not even sure what the icons indicate.. is there a key somewhere?

Sounds similar to a bug listed as fixed in 3.0.3 – “Fix: The permalink below the title was showing a warning even though the category has been picked with a previous version of the plugin.”

    Hi Lindsey,

I am seeing icons and a post url beneath each post title when I go to ‘View All Posts’ in my dashboard. I have never seen the icons before today.

Yes, it’s… new ?? Heart means you picked a category, warning means you didn’t. It’s fine if the permalink is good for you though, is it?

The previous bug you mentioned was fixed so normally it should be fine.

Oh! Ok, thank you for the quick reply. That is fine. Is info about new features such as the icons published somewhere with new releases? I will be sure to read it if I know where to find it! I was quite alarmed by all the warning icons lol… I thought something was failing. Glad to know I can reactivate the plugin. ??

I wrote something in the release notes but I know that wasn’t obvious. Maybe I should update my website and talk about this. I will ??

Is there a way to turn this feature off? I mean to hide the icon + link?

Yes, that would be good. We always “have to” choose a category.

Sometimes its a heart, sometimes it is the warning symbol – 2 different Articles in the same Category. Authors get confused and asking what they are doing wrong…

shopro, I will add the option.

MikkelCrunch, I am not sure I have understood, do you think there is a bug? If you chose a category, then it should be a heart. You chose a category sometimes and there is no heart?

I was also confused by those icons. Jordy, can you please add short descriptions using the ‘title’ attribute, so they can appear as tooltips when hovering over the icons? Thank you for your good work.

Okay, I am pushing a new release with the title ??

    Great, thank you.

It’s done, can you try? ??

I ran into an issue when updating to the latest that my Woocommerce products page (admin side) loads to a blank page. Disabling WP Category Permalink fixes the issue. Other stuff works good. ??

Yes, I have just updated the plugin and I can see the tooltips now, thank you.

I really don’t want to appear as an ungrateful bastard by complaining about such things, but I still think there’s room for improvement. I’m just offering some opinions, and you are of course free to decide if you want to implement any of them or not.

For example, before stumbling on this forum post I didn’t know that the permalink preview in the all posts list was inserted by your plugin. So the current tooltip (“The main category should be chosen in the Edit Post page.”) would have made no sense to me. My suggestion is to put the name of the plugin somewhere in the tooltip text and maybe explain a little bit more that the purpose of choosing the main category is to control how the permalink is generated. Something like: “WP Category Permalink note: This post was assigned to multiple categories, but you didn’t choose the main category to be used in the permalink. The current permalink uses the WordPress default.”

Also the red icon makes it look like an error, not just a simple warning/note. It made me think that something possibly dangerous is happening, and that’s why I started searching the internet for the meaning of the icon and found this forum post. I see that the icon font does not have the classic triangle with an exclamation point normally used in warning messages, but maybe using another icon (“dashicons-flag” or “dashicons-info”) in a less ominous color would make it look more like a notification, which I believe was your intention.

I have made a quick mockup screenshot where you can see both icons and the modified tooltip:

Again, these are just suggestions and you may completely ignore them if you don’t agree with my views; I’m just trying to help here, not to be an ass.

Thanks again for your work. Cheers.

    Hi,

I am experiencing the same red exclamation marks in 100% of all my products( woo commerce) in the dash board- products- under each SKU after I installed the plugin. My permal link structure is custom structure-/%category%/%postname%/

    Is there a solution?

    Please advise.
    Thanks

Hi, red is normal if you have categories, you need to pick one, otherwise WordPress takes the default one.

Hi All. Been seeing this warnings for a while, but only just got a few minutes to track down what they are and where they were coming from. After reading the above I found the “Hide Permalinks” option and have now turned that off, so job done! But what I wanted to mention is that the warnings were showing up in the orders list in WooCommerce which really didn’t make any sense as these are not really ‘posts’. So can I suggest that a feature be added in the next plugin update so that it doesn’t add these warnings / messages to the WC orders page please?

    Thanks, James
