• I started a new blog about a month ago and was posting daily until yesterday. When I tried to log in I get this:

Warning: require(/home/marketk3/public_html/stupidfunnythings/blog/wp-includes/author-template.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/marketk3/public_html/stupidfunnythings/blog/wp-settings.php on line 331

I have several WP blogs functioning perfectly. This is the only one with this issue.

I tried adding the missing files from another (working) WP blog with no success.

I did try to update or change anything else. It simply happened overnight.

Other file that are missing are:
    author-template
    bookmark
    bookmark-template

Can this be resolved? How does it happen.

    Sorry bout that…

files dont get lost magically. its the law of cause and effect, sorry.

You indicated you tried to “add” the missing the files back and that doing so didnt solve your problem.

does that mean that the files were actually still there? you dont say? you would see whether or not thats the case if you tried to re-upload them back.

so, where they? or where they not?

secondly, if you confirmed the files were there, or you successfully re-uploaded the “magically lost” files back, and still saw that error — then obviously its not an issue with the files being lost, but being “seen” by your wordpress install.

in either event case, you dont provide enough info re. those items.

    Sorry for not being clear.
The files can not be found. It was suggested that I find these files in another (working) blog and upload them to the non-working blog. When I did this I continued to get the error message.

where is your blog; what is the url?

ok, so I see this error:

Warning: require(/home/marketk3/public_html/stupidfunnythings/blog/wp-includes/author-template.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/marketk3/public_html/stupidfunnythings/blog/wp-settings.php on line 331

clearly thats looking for this file:

    wp-includes/author-template.php

Now, when I browse your includes directory:

    https://www.stupidfunnythings.com/blog/wp-includes/

i dont see that file. do you?

that tells me you didnt upload it, like you said above. OR if it is there, thats its not readable by the web server.

IF its there when you look via your ftp client or your hosts file manager, what are the permissions of the file?

It’s not there. When it did not help, I removed it. Would it be helpful if I put it back? Remember it is a file from another blog, not this one if that matters.

how about putting the file that belong there, there. You can download ALL versions of wordpress from this site.

see the big orange download link at the top of this page?

    Click it with your mouse.

on the left hand side of that page is a link to ALL the older versions (-1 which shouldnt matter).

This isnt a tough concept — if you see the site is missing files (you described that above), then you put them there.

My car needs 4 wheels. If I lose one, I have to get another.

I added the missing files and a plug in that was not working also. Now I get the log in screen and when I log in I get this:

Warning: require_once(admin.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/marketk3/public_html/stupidfunnythings/blog/wp-admin/index.php on line 10

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘admin.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/marketk3/public_html/stupidfunnythings/blog/wp-admin/index.php on line 10

I looked at the index.php and “require_once” is there.

    Failed opening required ‘admin.php’

now it says this file is missing
