I changed it so it is not found as an update for the original version.

It was found as an update to original version. I am not sure why it happened since slug is different.

I have lost the customization in a number of sites. Also lost the files uploaded using the form since cforms save the upload to the plugin folder instead of uploads folder.

I had auto update on a number of sites. That was why over 50+ sites got updated to new version. Had to spent hours restoring backup and checking everything ??

I also had the auto-update and it disabled my cforms ii plugin.
Then I tried to migrate my settings, and it told me that they migrated, but when I click to continue it comes back to the same screen, so I can’t see my forms.

This is the pre-migration screen, even though I had version 14.5:

Migrating cforms settings from pre-v9.0 versions
All settings found are listed below. If the findings make sense, please scroll down and continue.
Now before you do that, be aware that this might erase all of your cforms settings, so please make a DB backup to be on the safe side!

Old wp_options() settings, to be moved to new settings container:

    Start migration

Again, make sure you have a backup of your WP database, before continuing!

    Then after I click continue:

Migrating cforms settings from pre-v9.0 versions
Phew. All settings successfully transferred. Please continue here.

But then when I click continue it just goes back to the previous screen

@wordpress.Me I am very sorry about that. I did not plan to hijack the auto update… Thankfully you had backups.

@ublac With 14.6.6 the old migration code is kicked out. This should work for you.
