The plugin is correctly creating a preview of a meta description when no manual meta description is added.

Unfortunately, in the live page, that meta description that was shown by rankmath is not being used. Instead, if no manual meta description is added to rank math, it will mistakenly grab the divi short codes code without “do’ing” the shortcodes and display them out without executing. So then google will see brackets and code in the descriptions instead of a real description that was previewed.

The only solution is to manually recreate all the pages with descriptions…I reported this to them but have gone around in circles because there seems to be a communication issue. So if you are using divi, check the code on ALL your sites using divi for pages where you didn’t manually enter a description asap as this has severe negative consequences.

    Hello @jiggaman

Thank you for contacting the support.

Can you please update to the latest version of the plugin, 1.0.35.3?

    That should fix the issue.

Please let us know if that doesn’t.

You have this marked resolved…but just tested it on the front home page and its not resolved at all.

Please test in the following condition:
    1. Multisite
    2. Divi using a child theme.

Perhaps you are not doing a check for the active theme properly when rendering out? It has no issue rendering out perfectly in the admin area preview.

    Bug still live with Divi.

So…maybe some questions to ask about how you are generating this data:

    1. Since the preview auto generated description works in the admin Guttenberg beautifully..and I mean beautifully you guys have don’t really really great work with that….is that auto generate description being temp saved somewhere…i’m guessing not…maybe it should be?

    2. When we are generating the description for the “live front end” mode…where in the priority are you getting the post data? In this situation, is the Divi theme active when you are executing the short-code on the front end..if its not…then divi theme based shortcodes wont execute…so…are you checking if it is active.

again…please switch to unresolved…because it is not resolved at all

    Hello @jiggaman

Can you please confirm if you added the following filter in your theme’s functions.php file?

    Please let us know.

    Thank you.

The point of this message, is not if I can add a filter so that Divi, the biggest paid theme in the world can work if a divi user scours the forums to see that it doesn’t…the point is to do a theme check, and if the theme exist add whatever filter you need to add to make it work.

I was suggesting that some steps should be made to make divi work out of the box and because of the number of installations that exist with divi, that this would be valuable to do.

But if it is not…then you should clearly post a warning to all divi users that it is not.

So…why are you asking me if I modified a child theme with a specialized filter to make make your product work with divi…you just aren’t getting it.

    Hello @jiggaman

As much as we want to support the auto-generation of the Meta description/title from the Shortcodes, we won’t be able to do so. That will simply slow down the Rank Math plugin, which is not what users want.

On top of it, the best SEO practice is not to use auto-generated Meta description but to enter one manually, summarizing the entire article and also including the focus keyword(s) in it.

Hope that clarifies why we are not doing it for everyone. Sorry to disappoint.

I can respect the idea of weight and speed, that said…there is default text in the admin area making people unaware that their live descriptions are only shortcode data if they have the visual builder in divi active…perhaps give them notice that its not working? Could be problematic for a large portion of your audience.

That said, perhaps you guys can find another work around asap as a lot of people using your product don’t realize how much this will mess up their seo upon activation if they dont manually go through every single page.

…i think this deserves a bit more attention given how potentially detrimental this could be.

I just want to make sure you guys understand what is happening so that there is no miscommunication: The auto generated description preview is showing perfectly in the wp-admin post edit side bar area, but if the user doesn’t manually retype that perfectly made preview or add a new one, then in the live site the short code brackets and code are showing

Knowing that, it looks like in your front end, you are trying to get the autgen description prior to having the theme load thereby know being able to interpret the shortcodes associated with the themes…is that the issue? And if so can you simply try to generate the description after the theme has loaded?

@rankmath I updated and see it rendering out the shortcode, so thats a great step in the right direction. However, it is rendering out something different than what shows in the preview. IN the preview it is starting from the first <p> tag. But in the actual rendering out its starting from the <h1>. Additionally, it is not creating a space between content it grabs from different types of tags. Ie for something like <h1>cool cool.</h1><h2>yes yes.</h2> The output is: “cool coolyes yes” when it would be better as “cool cool. yes yes.”

I don’t know which one is better to start grabbing description content from, but I think it would be good to be consistent so people know what to expect when they see the auto preview. I created a new thread for this issue.
