WARNING: Beware iThemes Security Alerts

I received a frantic email in a huge font from iThemes Security claiming it had locked down my WordPress site because of too many hits. That’s odd because I stopped using WordPress years ago. Moreover, this alleged “security” app somehow pirated my cpanel user account login name. And, to top it off, identified my U.S.-based server by an IP address in Sri Lanka. Sounds like a cry for help from a failing company looking for some kind of upsell. IThemes Security did not deny it was one of its emails, made nonsense excuses and sent me here, and to their help page.
