• Hello everyone.

I’m getting this message – see below (or similar) on several sites that we run, and having contacted our longstanding hosting provider – they think the fault lies with WordPress and suggested I try the WordPress support forum, so here goes.

While the sites seem to be working ok they’re incredibly sluggish, much more so than usual although this sluggishness (e.g. logging into wp-admin) has happened before recently … is this related? I’m wondering if it’s because we’ve updated to WordPress 4.1, since we didn’t get the message below before. This is particularly evident because I’ve just updated one of our sites – https://www.welcometoouterspace.co.uk – to WordPress 4.1 and now have the error message where I didn’t have it before!

    Here’s the URLs for the sites where we’re getting the message – https://www.theshiningtree.com; https://www.newbookshop.co.uk; https://www.bengates.co.uk; https://www.cumbriamassage.com; catspawguitars.co.uk; welcometoouterspace.co.uk

In anticipation of your help then! Cheers,
    Debbie

  • Hello,

Before updating to 4.1, I ran websites with 500 MB each in WHM. After updating I had to increase server space. Apparently 4.1 is much heavier. None of my websites are e-commerce or large in any other way. I increased packages to 5000, which might be overkill.

    Good Luck,

    Patricia

    Thanks Patricia,

installed WordPress on a new site this morning, still getting that message below, and couldn’t install any new themes. Don’t know what’s going on and finding the sheer number of posts on support about this problem really confusing :-/

    1. Are you sure the hosting server is configured for WordPress?
“It is recommended you use a robust platform comprised of the Linux operating system, and either the Apache web-server or the NGINX web-server. Almost any server that supports PHP and MySQL will work. If your host doesn’t support one of these platforms, and mod_rewrite, you will probably be better off switching to one of the many hosting providers that do offer those choices.”

    2. Otherwise, I’d contact your hosting provider to find out if your site has been taken over (redirected).

I had something similar on a site. I contacted my host and they activated a higher version of php on the server. Problem was solved for me.

But as you might have seen: similar problems have different solutions. I haven’t seen the higher php solution yet, so I thought I’d mention it.

I was lucky in a way: I had several sites with the same host, and just 1 with the problem, so they could compare server settings…
