• He guys, I hope somebody can help me with this problem. When I want to upload a file I get this message:

Warning: is_dir(): Stat failed for /usr/home/barsoumi/public_html/leerkring/wp-content/uploads/2006 (errno=13 – Permission denied) in /usr/home/barsoumi/public_html/leerkring/wp-includes/functions-post.php on line 869
Unable to create directory /usr/home/barsoumi/public_html/leerkring/wp-content/uploads/2006/02. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

  • Make the wp-content folder writable (change the permissions via FTP or your site’s admin interface).

Moshu, can I take this opportunity to ask what exactly is the write server permission for this? Do any of the chmod boxes for “public” have to be checked? I’m just concerned about the security issue (had a site hacked) and am weighing different opinions about what’s the best permissions setup.

joelwalsh, under normal circs all folders should be 755 and all files 644. If you need to upload graphics, make the relevant folder writeable ONLY until you’ve completed the upload, then set it back to 755. Do not leave world-writeable files or folders on your server unless absolutely necessary – and I’ve never found it to be necessary yet in all my years online and managing websites.

Sorry but I made the folder 777 but still:

Anybody here?! This newbie could sure use some help!!!

You need to CHMOD the uploads folder to 777, so the Owner, User and World permissions need to be set to read, write, execute. Remember to change them back down after you’ve uploaded.
