Thanks for your reply, I have used Wapuuvatar plugin many times several years ago, but I will choose to disable it again every time due to some small problems, these problems mainly lie in different theme display effect and original size of images, etc.
1、Most of our adjustment and time was spent on the manual length-width spacing modification of wapuu avatar, considering it was the first version, not much modification was done to the directory structure and code.
2、As 32px will be displayed very blurred under retina screen, we adjusted the default minimum 32px to 64px; the maximum image size was adjusted to 256x256px, under the condition that the image will not be stretched and deformed, we manually adjusted the aspect size of each avatar and compressed it, now each 64x64px image is about 1kb in size.
3, another problem is unique to China, due to GFW blocking, we can not normally access Gravatar avatar, and Gravatar is a built-in feature of the WordPress program, which seriously affects the use of users, will lead to slow access to the site, and Wapuuvatar is a good transition program, but the current plug-in package is too large ( 25MB) and will be very slow to download from .org.
4、For additional wapuu avatars most of them come from WordCamp mascot, jp archive, and some famous plugins’ custom brand Wapuu in each session in the past years, these are also released based on GPL license, so there is no problem when the avatars are used.
5、In the long run, we hope to replace the image CDN acceleration service of gravatar.com and wp.com, or wait until the subsequent development team is mature to make a localized WordPress avatar solution suitable for China.
The Wapuu avatar library and name list has been reorganized and structured to fit into Wapuuvatar for use.
