• I thought this would be easy, but apparently I’m the only one wanting to do it? (I say this because searches on Google, and here, don’t seem to bring me anything close to what I need.)

I am writing a post, and I remember that I’ve done something in the past that I want to link. If I could remember which post it was, that is. The key thing about the post is that it contains the words:

    criminal “justice” system

Exactly like that. That is, the word “criminal” is in the post without quotes, followed by the word “justice” in quotes, and then the word “system” without quotes.

I’ve tried various ways of searching for this, but no luck so far. I’m not trying to write any new code, plugin, or anything like that. I just want to find a certain post for myself this time.

    Thank you.

  • Rick –

Could you provide a URL to your site so I can try the search myself?

If I read it correctly, the string-locator plugin searches for text within the theme and plugin php files – not within posts.

Is that correct or does it search the posts (that is, search the database) and the php files?

Why not just search for criminal justice system without the quotes?

Are there so many instances of criminal justice system without quotes that it would be impractical to look through all of the search results to find the one with the quotes?

I created two posts on a test WP blog, one has:

    criminal “justice” system

    and the second has:

    criminal justice system

Both posts are shown if I search for: criminal justice system

The quotes seem to be ignored by the search.

However, if I search for “criminal justice system” I get only the one post where justice is not quoted.

But at least I see all of the posts when I leave the quotes off.

    Does this help at all?
