wanting to feed latest 5 entries…

I know there’s probably an easy answer, I’ve just yet to find it.
my blogs are set up similar to this:
https://www.mysite.com/blog1/
https://www.mysite.com/blog2/
https://www.mysite.com/blog3/The index page of mysite.com lists primary category headings under which I would like the latest entries to appear.
Any tips on where to find “simple” instruction would be a blessing!
