• Hi guys,

I really consider to use WordPress as a CMS for my website https://www.allthingsroyal.net/

I have WordPress currently installed as a blog under ‘Nieuws’, but I would like to use WordPress for managing my website.

I read the documentation in the Codex, but I don’t really get. Is here someone there willing to guide me in what steps I have to do?

  • Just install it again fresh, in the top level of your domain where your index is kept (keep a backup of whatever files are there now)

the WordPress index.php will open as your home page when you surf to your site

Thank you for replying, but it is not about moving a WordPress install, I want to use WordPress to manage all the pages of the static website that I have. In short using WordPress as a CMS. And that’s where I am lost.

What I want exactly is this:

    * I want to keep the structure and lay-out of my site as it is.
    * my blogposts have to appear in the ‘nieuws’ directory of my site.
    * the root index.php and pages in the other directories of my site to be managed with WordPress.

Is this possible and if so, what do I need to do?

    Hey, sophietje.

Yes, it is possible to retain the structure and layout of your site ‘as it is’, and incorporate WordPress with the site to manage the content. What you will need to do is:

[1] Create your own WordPress theme, and use it with your installation of WordPress, or

[2] Pick an existing theme from the WordPress theme repository (preferably one which remotely resembles the layout you want), and modify it accordingly.

If you need any help with doing any of this, you can e-mail me at arun [dot] kale [at] gmail [dot] com, and I’ll do my best to help you out. All the best ??
