This is exactly what I was looking for. The only question I have, is which file to do I edit to add this code? Is it advanced-excerpt.php? functions.php in the main wordpress folder or functions.php in the advanced excerpt folder? Thanks for any clarity you can offer.

You can add it to your theme’s functions.php file or create a new functionality plugin and add it there instead.

I’m running into the same issue that your plugin adds a … to short posts that are no excerpt. I tried out the snippet you mentioned in this thread but it removes the read more link from excerpts, too.

Besides that I think it would be better to fix the error than asking users to write a plugin and fix it themselves.

When I use the functionality plugin provided, it works MOST of the time. There are posts that don’t have the “read more” link and should have. In each of these cases, the excerpt was truncated at a blank line.

Has this not been rolled into the plugin code proper? Arrgh.

This really needs an update to remove “read more” from short posts automatically.
