Want to install in root, but keep existing site until my wp blog is finished

    Thanks for helping!

    I’ve read in various posts that installing wp in the root directory is better for SEO, plus I want to convert my entire website over to wp.
    However my site is quite extensive and it will take me some time to re-do it into a wp theme/format.
    How can I still install wp in the root directory and have my old site still be functional while I work on the new one? It is possible to do this?
