• If I create a subdirectory folder for my new blog instead of installing it in the root folder, then point it toward my primary url in the WP Panel…will my blog then become the index page of my website overriding any current page?

I know there are a lot of docs out there dealing with this, but I just need clarification concerning pointing your blog’s subdirectory url to your primary url, and whether or not it then becomes by default your index/primary page?

I’ve got that link Figaro…just need a little further clarification. Thanks.

Well, I don’t know how you are going to “point” your subdirectory url to your root url…seems to me you will be caught in an infinite loop if you try that.

It may help if you start with telling us what you are trying to accomplish?

Unless I’m misunderstanding, you want your blog to be in a subdirectory and have it act as though it’s in root? If so, then that doc tells you exactly how to do that.

I want the index page of my website to be my blog, but I also want to put my blog in a subdirectory. My website already has a “pre-blog” index page, so if I follow these steps:

    * In the box for WordPress address (URL): change the address to the new location of your main WordPress core files. Example: https://example.com/wordpress
    * In the box for Blog address (URL): change the address to the root directory’s URL. Example: https://example.com

…will my old index page be overwritten and my blog then become my index page and therefor the main page of my website? Because obviously two index pages cannot exist simultaneously.

You have to move your WP index.php file to the root as the directions say in step 7…you would delete the original index file from your root (or rename it to something else if you want to keep it) so that there is only one index in root.
