Waiting (TTFB) very high (4 seconds) when Plugin activated

    The site has a couple of visitors daily and has a average TTFB of around 300ms.
    For some reason the waiting time for the first byte of a response is very high every 5 minutes, when the plugin is enabled.
    There is a pattern to it too. The TTFB is rising and shrinking during 24h day:
    10 pm = 2 sec
    04 am = 4 sec
    10 am = 2 sec
    04 pm = 4 sec

    This pattern is consistent over the period of days and our monitoring tool draws linear rising and linear shrinking bars in a graphic which reflecting the seconds listed above.

    After a couple of day the amount of TTFB doubles!

    10 pm = 4 sec
    04 am = 8 sec
    10 am = 4 sec
    04 pm = 8 sec

    While the minimum TTFB stays constant at 4 seconds!

    Wenn I turn off and on the plugin, the TTFB drop to 300ms and stays that way until eventually it rises first for every 5 minutes and eventually after a couple of days it stays at 4 seconds.

    Do have any clue what might cause this strange but very consistent behavior?
    How should I debug this?
