W3TC, CDN and CloudFlare
-
Hello,
Hopefully Frederick Townes will read this message because I’ve been led into many dead-ends with supposedly ideal W3TC setups.
I spent the last week trying to optimize my site (https://phototrope.ca):
Theme: TwentyTwelve child
CDN: CloudFlare
Plugins: WooCommerce, Photospace GalleryHere is a small part of what I tried.
STEP 1 – DEFAULT SETTINGS
GTmetrix PageSpeed: from 64% to 93%
GTmetrix YSlow: from 76% to 81%
PageSpeed Insights: from 73% to 90%Nice improvement.
———————-
STEP 2 – DEFAULTS +
Page Cache: ON
Minify: ON, AUTO
Database cache: ON
Ignored query stems: _wc_session_ (required by WooCommerce)
Object cache: ONGT PSpeed: 87%
GT YSlow: 84%
PageSpeed: 86%WooCommerce screwed up.
———————–
STEP 3 – DEFAULTS +
Page: ON
Minify: OFF
Object: ON
CDN: ON, generic mirror
CloudFlare: ON
Domain: phototrope.ca
security: LOW
minification: CSS, JS, HTML
rocket: AUTO
CLOUDFLARE.COM settings:
performance: CDN + Full optimizations
protection: LOW
caching level: BASIC
auto minify: CSS, JS, HTMLGT PSpeed: 90%
GT YSlow: 91%
PageSpeed: 86%WHOLE site screwed up.
————————–
I tried other settings at cloudflare.com that didn’t improve W3TC default scores.
On the other hand, enabling W3TC Minify (with CloudFlare minify OFF) screws up my entire site.
Sorry for this endless post. I am tempted to use only W3TC default settings. But then what’s the point in having a CDN?
Thank you for your help.
