I am trying to set up separate W3 Total Cache “User Groups” for “desktop” and “mobile.” The “mobile” and “tablet” already exist and I have activated those with the user agents in place as it was installed. However, I cannot find a current (Jan-2024) list of “desktop” user agents to use in the W3 Total Cache interface. I can find old lists in Jason and other formats, but none that are current in plain text.

How can I successfully set up the “desktop” user agents, and set for “pass-through” or theme for both user groups. I need to have the desktop and mobile use different caches and so far I have been unsuccessful

My understanding is that “pass-through” allows the plugin to control which ever works, is this correct?

I hope you can help out. Thanks!

    Hello @blaircomm

Thank you for reaching out and I am happy to help!

By default, the User Agent Groups is used to separate the cache for mobile, as the desktop is cached by default, and this prevents issues when in some cases, the cached page for desktop is shown on mobile and vice versa.

This being said you do not need to create a new group for the desktop.
The “pass-through” should be used if you are using any plugin(s) (e.g. mobile plugins) to handle requests for these user agents properly. However, if you rely on the Theme mobile responsive, you should select the theme you are currently using.

    I hope this helps!

    Thanks!

Thank you. I will get back to the “Specific Content for Mobile” plugin author and see if I can make it work.
