I have 3 sites – a dev site, a staging site and a live site.

My dev and staging sites are copies of my live site, and work as expected, except when modifying the theme.

When I try to customise my theme on my dev and staging sites, I sometimes see the following error in the left hand menu
e.g. customizing -> Appearance settings -> background image
or customizing -> Header options -> very top bar
or customizing -> Header options -> Navigation

Notice: Undefined property: Hestia_Button::$control_to_focus in /var/www/clients/client3/web61/web/wp-content/themes/hestia/inc/customizer/controls/ui/class-hestia-button.php on line 217

Does anyone have any idea why this odd error should be appearing?

  • Hello @murrayelliot2!

    Thanks for choosing Hestia!

Unfortunately I don’t get any error on my test instances, so the issue may occur on your end due to a plugin conflict. Please install the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin, enable the troubleshooting mode which will deactivate all plugins and check if the issue persists. If the problem doesn’t occur anymore, it means it was indeed caused by a plugin conflict and you should reactivate the plugins one by one, until you find the culprit. Then, replace that plugin with an alternative one. Also, make sure you use the latest version of the theme.

    I hope this helps!

    Have a nice day!

    Hi @murrayelliot2!

I just want to let you know that we were able to replicate this issue in the meantime. Our developers are currently working on a fix and hopefully it will be solved in the next update of the theme.

    Have a nice day!
