visual mode on post and page edit problem

  • when i get to the edit… visual mode has random red zigzag lines in the typing area, not the actual existing text. if i click html tab.. that’s fine. click back to visual, and I still see html version.

    Also I have no formatting icons in visual mode at all, just the 4 upload/insert icons.

    Someone said I should FTP the wp files…. but very frightened of wrecking the blog..

    Pls could someone narrow it down, and tell me exactly which files I would need?

  • Replace the wp-includes and wp-admin folders with fresh copies from a download of WordPress.

    NOTE: Not the wp-content folder, as this contains your themes, plugins and uploads.

    TIP: It’s a good idea to perform a backup of important data before running over a process you’re not familiar with. It’s your insurance should something go wrong (not that i think it will, but it’s a very simple process to backup, and you should do this routinely anyway if your content is important to you).

    Thank you Mark… It’s all backed up this morning via cpanel.

    It’s all the tweaks of the theme that i would hate to lose… been developing it so long I hardly remember what i have done.

    So,fingers crossed!!!!

    Theme modifications won’t be effected, themes/plugins are in the wp-content folder, which you’ll not be replacing… ??

    It worked… Had a fright as typing area had black background, but for the first time ever it had applied the TinyMCE plug in… when i deactivated that, it was fine.

    Lots of people seem to recommend that plugin for additional easy formatting facilities… but it seems to cause trouble.
