I didn’t see any recent discussions on this (the only ones I saw were months old, before 4.2 came out).

My visual editor is just gone. Click on the tab and it’s a plain blank white area. I can still access the text editor. Had a heck of a time tonight posting a blog by coding it and then comparing the preview image. Brought back memories of 1999…

I THINK this problem started with the 4.2.2 upgrade, but I’m not entirely sure. I’ve been away from blogging for a few weeks, so not 100% sure if the problems started then or a couple of weeks earlier.

I’ve search EVERYWHERE for other people with the same issue, and there seem to be many. However, I haven’t found a solution that has worked so far (and some of them, I simply don’t understand).

I have cleared my blog’s cache.
I have cleared my browser cache.
I have created a new admin profile and logged in there.
I have checked to make sure the box that says “Disable the visual editor when writing” is NOT checked.
I have put in some code into the “wp-config” file that someone said was supposed to fix it (it didn’t).
I have logged on/off, tried different browsers, different computers…I even logged into my dashboard on my Android (which I had never tried before,).

Nada, nothing, zilch. No visual editor.

    Can ANYONE help?

I am using Twenty-Ten theme (updated it AFTER this problem started, hoping that would solve it, but it didn’t either.

    Thanks,
    Lynn

I am disheartened by the fact that the only people hopping on this thread are others with the same problem and a moderator who keeps telling them to set up their own thread. Is there NO ONE who can help? ?? ??

My visual editor is just gone. Click on the tab and it’s a plain blank white area.

That’s almost always a problem with your Javascript, meaning the code that fills in that white area is crashing.

Have you tried these steps? If you have I apologize, this topic is long and the other people trying to interrupt your topic aren’t helping. ??

If you can determine what/where the Javascript is getting munged then you may be able to sort out the problem.

UPDATE: I tried reloading the wp-includes folder, but it broke my site. I’ve reloaded the original one and the site is back online (thankfully) but I still have no visual editor.

OK, that should not have broken anything. Can you share a link to your site? Again, I apologize if I missed it.

Thanks. I’ve put in the code, cleared the cache, refreshed my screen and it’s still not working in any browser I use.

So, I’ve run the diagnostic suggested on the page. Here are the errors returned by FIREFOX:

    09:40:09.339 Object { _errorType: “TypeError”, message: “document.body is null”, fileName: “resource://gre/modules/commonjs/too…”, lineNumber: 39, stack: “check@resource://gre/modules/common…”, name: “TypeError” }1 core.js:98

There’s another that’s WAY too long to copy that says “el is undefined”, at line 104
    ===========

I also checked it on CHROME. It says there is a problem in the CSS. Here is a screenshot of the error info it returned:

I have not a clue what ANY of this means, nor how to rectify it. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Jan, our posts crossed paths. Let’s look at the Java stuff first before we go back to look at the wp-includes folder. Thanks for your help!

    UPDATE:
My web tech may have isolated the issue (not resolved it yet though). It seems to be a conflict between Java and CloudFlare. Here’s what she wrote on the support ticket. I only put it here because it might be the same problem others are having:

    =======

    SUPPORT TICKET SENT TO CLOUDFLARE

I have ONE IP address that has certain files blocked when we use Cloudflare.

    The blocked files are:
    https://the7gracesofmarketing.com/wordpress/wp-admin/css/forms.css

    https://the7gracesofmarketing.com/wordpress/wp-includes/js/autosave.js

    https://the7gracesofmarketing.com/wordpress/wp-admin/js/editor-expand.js

    https://the7gracesofmarketing.com/wordpress/wp-includes/js/media-audiovideo.js

    https://the7gracesofmarketing.com/wordpress/wp-includes/js/imgareaselect/jquery.imgareaselect.js

The affected IP address is: xx.xxx.xxx.x

    Steps taken in diagnosing this:

    1. Turn OFF Cloudflare redirection. The files are accessible.

    2. Turn ON Cloudflare redirection. Files aren’t accessible from xx.xxx.xxx.x but are from other IP addresses

    3. Whitelist xx.xxx.xxx.x – no effect

    4. Add Page rule for *the7gracesofmarketing.com/wordpress/wp-includes* – no effect

    5. Add Page rule for *the7gracesofmarketing.com/wordpress/wp-admin*

To be VERY CLEAR that this is not a serverside error – if we don’t use Cloudflare, that IP address has no issues.

    END OF TICKET
    ==========

She was working remotely via Team Viewer, and there WAS a moment when the visual editor had come back (I’m assuming CF was disabled at that time), but now it’s gone again as CF is back on.

    – Please contact CloudFlare for support with your question. You’ll be more likely to find a good answer from them, for they have the access to its code. Forum volunteers are not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why your commercial CloudFlareroduct is not working properly. The vendors are responsible for supporting their commercial product.

    Yes, we have.

However, I think it would be good to leave this post here so that if others encounter the issue they might think to check CloudFlare as the possible source of the error.

    Unbelievable!

WordPress automatically updated to 4.2.3 today and…(drumroll please)…

    …the problem has magically DISAPPEARED.

Wish I could get compensated for the time and money I spent trying to fix it (sigh).

    Onward…

This issue has now been resolved…fingers crossed it stays that way.

    Glad to know it ??

My site has been fine on 4.2.2 but now the visual editor ins missing since the update to 4.2.3

Not visible on Chrome on my PC, Internet Explorer 10 on my Laptop, Safari on my iPad or Safari on my iPhone

Just ran Javascript Console on Chrome and got all these errors:

Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 403 (Forbidden)
    post.php:2600
Uncaught ReferenceError: tinymce is not defined
    wp-langs-en.js:235
Uncaught ReferenceError: tinyMCE is not defined
    post.php:2595
Uncaught ReferenceError: tinymce is not defined
    mentions.min.js:2
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'activeEditor' of undefined
    5load-scripts.php:909
Uncaught ReferenceError: tinymce is not defined

Must be an error at WordPresses end

I have found that a quick and dirty fix is to put WordPress in to script debug mode.

    1. Open the file wp-config.php
    2. Find the line:
/* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */
    3. Directly below this line add:
    define('SCRIPT_DEBUG', true);
    4. Save the changes & upload to your server.

This is not an ideal fix but just a temp one.

I have my suspicions that this issue is been caused by 5G firewall security inside the .htaccess file.
For my own installation 5G firewall was added to .htaccess via the All In One WP Security & Firewall plugin.
I have since disabled this feature & returned my .htaccess file to default although the problem seems to still exists but I think that this may be due to a server side caching problem.
I am in correspondence with my host concerning this.

    I’ll post back my results.

    Regards..,

    Any news 1CM69?

I’m having the same problem and I’m in desperate need to fix it ??
