• Resolved stubbyd

    (@stubbyd)

I’d presummed that the 3.3.1 upgrade would also have (considering the amount of issues folks have had) addressed the lost visual editor problem.

Anyway, my visual editor is still disabled.

Even a downgrade to 3.2 didn’t fix it so it 3.3 obviously affected something not covered by adowngrade.

I have – in no particular order:

    – read the master list again and again in case I missed something
    – flushed all caches (this occurs on different PC’s, OS’s. netyworks, etc)
    – deactivated all plugins
    – renabled them one by one
    – changed theme(s) several times
    – renamed plugin folder and reinstalled all my plugins
    – manually copied a fresh download of WP 3.3 over the top.
    – added suggested fixes from others (later removed when shown to not work)
    – installed hotfix 0.8
    – googled until I’m blue
    – all the above again in varying order

    All to no avail.

Today updated to 3.31 and it still doesn’t work.

This is 1 blog out of 9 I manage all on the same server so this isn’t a server side or host based issue but something in the WP setup of this particular site.

So please – can someone advise / help me fix this by suggesting something I haven’t tried

    and bump

I’m in exactly the same boat. Only 1 of 5 WordPress sites I manage is having this problem where the visual editor is full of white code that you can’t see until you highlight.

I too have done all the same steps you have, and installed Hotfix 0.8, and it didn’t do anything. Downgrading to 3.2 didn’t help.

Good to know I’m not alone.

Thanks Chris – I haven’t worked out what the magic sauce is to get a response on this yet … but I won’t hold my breath either.

Visual editor still running white – can’t see w/o highlight.
I have tried all the fixes noted above.
    Need help,

and it’s running white in code – not visual.
    Need help.

I sympathise Cynthia – I too had the all white text issue but one of or a combination of the above steps got me at least html editing back. Which is probably one reason why I’m not kicking up an ever bigger stink.

Already done all of that – thus my comprehensive detailed breakdown in the opening note.

Just to second you stubbyd – I have also perfomed all of the checks on the list.
This is the first time a WP upgrade has caused such a problem. I need the visual editing mode. Need alternative – but see that downgrading to earlier WP hasn’t worked. What to do.

I’m up and running – I switched to Firefox browser with intention of using Firebug to see what uploads. I didn’t have to go to this step. The Visual Browser is now working (so it seems). Whew!

Happy for you – but unfortunately my problem is cross-browser, cross-OS, cross-location and cross-platform.

It isn’t any of those and it isn’t a cache issue either.

I meant the Visual Editor (not browser) is working, but you knew what I meant.
    Yes, I emptied cache.
I updated Firefox – as I hadn’t been using it. I was on Safari. But now – Firefox.
As you may have discerned, I’m not a developer and not fluent in HTML. Visual mode a necessity and working for me, for now.
Hope everyone has same good outcome.

I, too, am having this same problem. I add my comment to state that I am in the exact same situation as stubbyd: cross-browser, cross-OS, cross-location problem of the VE not working. Like him and Cynthia, I’ve read many, many threads on this, but I see a recurring pattern (and hope this can be resolved):

Each time the WP folks (esp. esmi) seem to always say to read the 3.3 master troubleshooting list. Like him, the troubleshooting steps do not resolve the problem. It’s not plugins, it’s not browser, it’s not OS. It seems to be idiopathic (fancy medical term for “we don’t know and we give up finding the cause”).

I hope that a solution can be found, since it may resolve the problem for both stubbyd and me, since we have the same WP medical condition.

Add me to the group of those with this problem. I can create posts in html mode, but I NEED that visual editor. It appears to be cross-browser, but I’ll double check.

Yep, it is the same. Cross-browser. You can see my visual editor in the first post of the thread I’d started last night.
