• I’ve checked that the “Use visual rich editor when writing” was ticked. But no visual editor appears in my “write” page. I tried creating a new user but it still doesn’t appear. The only things I see are two tabs under “post” labelled “Visual” and “Code”.

This happens on a clean install of WP 2.3 with no plugins, and using the default theme. I remembered the visual editor working on WP 2.05.

Nope, it doesn’t even appear on IE or Firefox. But IE seems to display this error (3 of them, this I think is the main one):

    Line:44
    Char:2
    Error: ‘realTinyMCE’ is undefined
    Code:0
    URL:https://tester.com.net.sc/wp-admin/post-new.php

Does anyone else have this problem?

  • I have just upgraded from 2.2 to 2.3 and have exactly the same problem (using IE7). Visual editor was fine in 2.2.

I have tried to find the source of the problem in the code but I cannot find any mention of “realTinyMCE” in the modules. Perhaps it is buried too deep for a “casual” php coder like myself to spot.

It is very mysterious…. I have searched the forums and found several similar problems with loss of the visual editor, some resolved by removing plugins, some resolved by making changes to .htaccess files and file permissions.

Checking and unchecking “use visual editor” in the user options page seemed to solve the problem for someone.

However, none of these have worked for me and I have decided to revert to 2.2 until there is a solution to this problem. Pity!

I shall keep watching the forums for a resolution….

I too have this problem – but in a stranger way. i have two blogs on my domain – one for testing – i upgraded the main to 2.3.3 and installed and 2.3.3 on a second (subdomain). Now here’s the weird part. I’m using Firefox (but it happens in IE7 as well) On the main blog, the visual editor is there and I can switch it on and off through user profile. On the new test blog, I have only the code option (no visual tab) and when I switch to visual, I have NO toolbar whatsoever. I deactivated and deleted all plugins on the new install too. I think it may be in one of the files that did not get updated from the previous version on my main blog, but I don’t know where to look. Help!

Yes. now I’ve broken the visual editor in my main blog. I recall I was writing a post – there was some conflict with one of my plugins (i was trying to upload a photo through the YAPG plugin and presto. I broke’d it.

    Help?

(i’ve deactivated plugins, checked and unchecked visual editor under users, cleared the cache, cookies and history and am still using firefox…)

I figured out an over the top way to fix it – I backed up the daabase files, and wiped out the wp installation and reinstalled 2.3.3 fresh. (Let’s call it the Micro$oft method)

Fixed the problem – and even when it appeared briefly, clearing the browser cache and restarting the browser fixed it. Secondary benefit, I am now fully versed in backing up and restoring a wp installation.
