Visual Editor not working with Product Category

    We had some issues with Visual Editor after the upgrade to WP v5.x and managed to fix the editor not displaying by installing Classic Editor with Gutenbury disabled. If we add the Product Category element in a new page using the Visual Editor then all appears OK. However if we try to edit an category existing (pre WP v5.x) page then the editor displays code, eg

    Hey @nickwuk !

    Generally, we only support the last 2 versions of WooCommerce. I think it may be a good idea to first update to the latest version to see if that helps. Before doing any major updates like that please take the necessary precautions like backups.

    If that does not help then it may be caused be either a conflict with your theme or with another plugin.

    The best way to determine this is to:

    • Temporarily switch your theme to Storefront
    • Disable all plugins except for WooCommerce
    • Repeat the action that is causing the problem

    If you’re not seeing the same problem after completing the conflict test, then you know the problem was with the plugins and/or theme you deactivated. To figure out which plugin is causing the problem, reactivate your other plugins one by one, testing after each until you find the one causing conflict. You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here.

    If there’s no typical known issues relating to the visual editor and products following a WP5.x upgrade, then what we’ll have to do is test the WC upgrade on a copy test site first to see if any of your procedures above will correct the issue.

    We would like to update WooCommerce to the latest version but your plugin warns us that the following plugins (with version tested) have not been tested with WC version 4.x:

    Both WordPress and WooCommerce have had updates since the last versions of those plugins were released, which is why you may see a message saying it hasn’t been tested with the current versions. The “tested up to” numbers are only changed when a new version of the plugin is released.
    When they release the next update, those numbers will be changed to match the current WordPress and WooCommerce versions.

    Though, indeed it’s best to do your upgrade on a test/staging site first, and/or make a backup of your site.

    Everything now up-to-date and I’ve found that if I deactivate the Display Product for WooCommerce plugin then Visual Composer for the page containing the “Display Product for WooCommerce” element then returns; reactivate and it breaks and just shows code.

    It’s the shortcode that is showing eg [displayProduct id="9285"], sometimes preceded with other code. I’ve found this post by Salient that suggests to either installing the Classic Editor plugin (which we have), or to update the Salient Theme and then the ‘Salient Visual Composer’ plugin (which I assume would then become the ‘WPBakery Page Builder’ plugin.

    I am glad you were able to find that. It does sound like you have found the issue and it is related to a conflict specifically with Salient.

    You will want to follow their instructions or reach out to their support for more help.
