    I see a number of closed topics on this subject, and I’ve tried all the fixes (I think) without success.

    Here’s the setup:
    PHP: 5.2.17
    Server: linux, x86_64
    WP: 3.2.1
    Theme: Shadowbox 1.5.4 or Twenty Eleven 1.2
    Plugins: none
    tested in Safari 5.1.1 and Firefox 7.0.1, with Mac OSX 10.7.2 and 10.6
    =================
    The visual editor is not appearing as an option – ONLY the HTML editor shows. I’ve reinstalled 3.2.1 4 times (always automatically). I’ve renamed the plugins folder to “plugins-old”. I’ve cleared the cache numerous times. Finally I created a completely new installation of WP on the server, same themes, and it is working PERFECTLY.

    So, doesn’t this mean that the error has to be some corrupted WP code in the original installation that is not getting replaced by the reinstall? I have both sites open right now in tabs in Firefox, and one shows the visual editor (the new, test installation) and the other doesn’t.

    HELP!! Do I have to try to move a 4 yr blog over to a completely new installation?

    Hoping someone can assist,
    THANKS.

    Merci Beaucoup!!!

    I’d seen some references to that setting, but had no idea where to find it. A little more searching directed me to the Users> page, and lo and behold, the “Disable” box WAS checked.

    Now, I have no idea how that would have happened. Perhaps when the user performed the update to 3.2.1 it put that setting in as a default??? I’m 100% certain that this particular user NEVER went into those settings and made a change herself.

    In any event, I can now move on to more worthwhile things in my life. Thank you Govpatel!

    You are welcome
