• Hi, I haven’t seen my specific problem come up yet, so I’m posting it here since I really need help. A few days ago I lost the ability to visually edit posts AND the editing bar disappeared from my TEXT editor (which I am stuck in now). As you can imagine this is a bit of a problem.

I’ve included an image of the problem here: https://i47.tinypic.com/eskkco.jpg

    Couple of things:

    – I have two version of wordpress installed on one server (with different databases, in different folders) – both worked fine up until a week ago. Both sites are for an author, just in different languages. they’re totally sandboxed and share no comment elements, apart from being hosting on the same server.

    – I did not manually update either versions of wordpress.

    – my host is HostGator, could this be a factor?

    – When reading about similar issues, I tried the following – reinstalling wordpress from the dashboard and disabling all plugins to no avail.

    – The last plugin in i installed was “MediaElement.js – HTML5 Audio and Video” – again, disabling it hasn’t fixed the problem

    – ” Disable the visual editor when writing” is checked off on all user profiles. In fact, checking this button brings back the tool bar in TEXT mode. Weird, right?

    – Sometimes a post will open in the VISUAL tab, however, no content will display (or tool bar), clicking on TEXT brings back all the content, however, you cannot click back ont the VISUAL tab after.

In other words: HELP! Thanks in advance, I can’t for the life of me figuring out what’s happened.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    @esmi,

    – I did deactivate all the plug ins, nothing changed.

    – I switched to the default theme, no change.

    – ditto or resetting the plugins folder

Check that you haven’t disabled the rich-text editor in your profile.

are we talking about the “Disable the visual editor when writing” option?

I mentioned in my OP that’s not checked.

I’ve got the same issue. I too checked for a plugin conflict and a theme conflict and nothing is working. When I switch my profile to disable the visual editor I at least get the html editing features but with the visual editor enabled all i have is a text only box and no tool bars and cannot switch over to visual view.

    Thanks.

Never mind, I tried deactivating all plugins again and then on post editor screen I cleared my cache by hitting ctrl + F5 and the editors / tool bars came back. Re activated all plugins except WP Auto Upgrade and WP Maintenance Mode and my editor is still working.

Try adding define('SCRIPT_DEBUG', true);to the bottom of your wp-config.php file (just before the require_once line).

Okay, this is interesting- the author (who the site is based on) just logged in through her Surface tablet and told me the interface works there.

In fact, I just checked on Safari, everything works fine.

Looks like this is an issue with the latest build of Chrome. How could that be?

Did you make the change I suggested?
