Visual Editor disappeared after 3.9.2 update

  • Hi,

    Ever since the wp 3.9.2 update, my visual editor seems to be broken – the screen is blank and the only button I see in either posts or pages is the Add Media button. When I click on text I can see that there is content but it’s blank in the visual tab.

    I have combed through the forums and tried everything suggested.

    – I deactivated all the plugins
    – switched my theme to twentyfourteen
    – manually emptied cache

    At this point – with all three of those steps followed the visual editor was still broken. I tried re-installing WP 3.9.2 from the dashboard update section – several times actually and no dice.

    I saw the resolved thread where someone had several overly large images and looked through my image folder – the only thing I had were a couple of images that were just over 1 MB – so I deleted them to be on the safe side. Still nothing.

    I work on a Mac and I’ve tried Safari, Chrome and Firefox and it’s not working in any of these browsers.

    I’m at a loss as to what to try next.

  • Hi Andrea,

    If you’re exhausted those options, perhaps you can try re-installing wordpress from scratch? Also, did you update automatically or manually?

    Be sure to backup your data before you do so though.

    I ended up having to do a manual re-install of wordpress on my site and that fixed the problem. Very frustrating!
