    Hi all,

I’m having weird behavior with the Visual Editor in 3.1 across multiple sites. I have tried deactivating all plugins in order to try and see if one of them was causing weird behavior but to no avail.

The visual editor basically shows up with the text whited out. I cannot use the buttons on the visual editor and the text that is whited out is actually the HTML (you can see the html by highlighing it).

So if i switch between the Visual and HTML tab, its actually only showing the HTML code. Makes me think somehow the hook to the Visual Editor is broken.

I’ve installed a third party editor for now, but I really need the visual editor to work to insert pictures, videos etc.

    Anyone else notice this behavior?

    Thanks,

    J

    I have the same problem.
I am creating 3 different sites and it only happens in one of them

Figured out how to fix it:

Rename your wp-content/plugins folder to pluginsxxx or something like that.

You should then be able to determine if your visual editor is working at all. This step allowed me to verify that the visual editor is working and in fact a plugin was the culprit.

After you change the plugin folder back to the correct name, you must go through each plugin, EVEN THE INACTIVE ONES, and look for TinyMCE support. I found a plugin that was no longer active that was causing the problem. Deleting the plugin (happened to be WP-super edit).

Once I deleted, not just de-activated, this plugin, BOOM, the visual editor came back.

    Everything else is still fine.

Thanks for posting the fix – it will help others. If you would please mark this thread as “resolved” it would be appreciated. Helps everyone keep better track of whose issues are still outstanding. Thanks!

For what it’s worth, I had the same issue and found that I had to do the dir-rename trick on the themes dir to get any joy out of TinyMCE. Thanks indeed for posting this fix, was rather disconcerting to discover that even disabled plugin code can still break things.

I’ve done all of this, and every other suggestion (cache clearing, reuploading) and the visual editor is still broken. Any further suggestions, anyone?

There are at least three other threads about this problem – and many of us still have it. You can’t mark a thread resolved when there have been four or five fixes suggested and for some of us NOT ONE has worked.

    @johansensen

What is the dir-rename trick, please? My plug-ins had nothing to do with it.
