• Hey there, WP folks.

I am working in the WP visual editor, and for some reason instead of the text flowing all the way to the right hand side of the editing box, WP is enforcing a (visual only) line break after 70 characters. I would like the text to flow all the way to the edge of the editing box; how can this be reset?

For that matter, how can the various defaults for the visual editor be reset? How can I change the default font, for example? Enable the kitchen sink to come up by default instead of having to toggle it on each time I access the visual editor? Etc. The list of stuff available under Settings > Writing is . . . quite sparse.

I am working in Safari on a Mac.

    Thanks!

  • Can you replicate the issue with Twenty Twelve theme with all plugins off?

I’ll give it a try. But I was assuming that the themes were for the rendered display of the HTML, not for what you see in the visual editor window. Is that assumption incorrect?

You are right. But some themes may have problems like broken codes that may occur download and installation, conflicts with other software such as plugins, etc. We cannot know right now. The standard test I suggest shall tell us where the trouble could be.

    Hi Krishna,

I tested with the Twenty Twelve theme and when I previewed it, it rendered just fine. But in the visual editor, I am still getting a forced line break at the end of 70 characters. (Similarly, if I turn off the visual editor and just work in the raw HTML, the HTML appears fine, i.e. there are no spurious line breaks entered–the <p> marker is correctly.) If you want I can actually publish with different themes instead of simply previewing; please just let me know.

    Thanks!

Can you check if you have a cache file in wp-content? If so, just delete it and try again.

I’m sorry; how do I check that?

Via FTP or by loging into your hosting control panel – File Manager or whatever name your host calls it.
