• Ok, I know this has been discussed before, but I cannot get the visual editor tab to show up on my “Edit Page” at all. It only shows in HTML, there is not even an HTML tab in the top right corner as there should be. I am at my wits end. I am running a PC, Windows 7, new versions of Chrome, FF and Explorer. FF is a brand new install today and I uninstalled and reinstalled Chrome today. None of them have helped. I have deleted cookies, temp files, etc.

When I log in to work computers or other peoples computers, the visual tab is there. I cannot get it to show on my own machine. I am good enough at HTML to do the basics on my page, but nothing else. I need the visual editing capability.

So I found this piece of advice on another forum thread:

“I reinstalled WordPress, cleared my cache, signed in as a different user, recleared my cache, then signed in as myself again and it worked.”

    I tried it and it didn’t work… Frustrated…

I also tried to click on the disable visual option several times and update after ever time… That didn’t work either..

Check dashboard, users for your profile.

@ kmessinger… My profile is there and the “Disable the visual editor when writing” is off. And, I am listed as one of 2 Administrators on the users page.

    Have you tried:
    – deactivating all plugins (yes, all) to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). Don’t forget the ones in mu-plugins if you have one. If you can’t get into your admin dashboard, try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

Tried it.. Didn’t work.. The theme can’t be the problem as when I log in to another computer, at work, or a friends computer it shows up just fine. The only thing I can figure is that it has something to do with a setting on my computer, not anything in WordPress.

The theme could be a problem on your computer – just trying to rule out all possibilities.

Check your java version here. https://javatester.org/index.htm

Thanks kmessinger… still not working??? I just updated my Java version to 1.6.0_31. I restarted my computer and it is still not working. I can still only post in HTML. There is no option tabs at the top of the screen? Getting frustrated..

Have you logged in with your computer on a different network?

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I logged in to a free wi-fi service and it is there!.. Now, it I have nailed it down to a setting in my ISP… I use PDA Net through Verizon Wireless. Any ideas? Or, should I call them directly to try and trouble shoot?

Yes call them direct. When you get an answer (if you do – I think they will know nothing and then it will suddenly start working) please post it here.

Hello. Odd. I faced the same problem today where the visual editor stopped showing up. I stumbled across this post. I disabled all my plugins and then refreshed, the editor appeared again. I enabled my plugins one at a time following that and the visual editor remained visible. So my problem is solved.

But I am wondering what an ISP has to do with the visual editor. The comments above suggesting its an ISP issue baffled me.

Some ISP’s have limitations as to what can and cannot be viewed and edited through their service. I don’t know the reason behind it, other than to protect themselves from attacks.

In this case, I was able to fix the problem. It was not my ISP, Verizon Wireless, but they did help me out a lot. I spoke with a very nice young lady on their support line who has a degree in Web Design and was very familiar with all the programs that I am running. I connect to the internet through my cell phone and then connect to my lap top with a USB cable using a program called PDA Net. Verizon suggested that it was most likely PDA Net that was causing the problem and she suggested a couple of fixes. I was able to contact PDA Net, they knew about this problem and a couple of others and they had me down load their newest version. It fixed the problem.

Thank you, to everyone who suggested fixes.
