On my WP Statistics page, it’s showing a huge number of visitors and visits but there are no corresponding page views.

E.g. today it’s showing 226 visitors and 629 visits so far. But there have been 0 page views today.

Most of the “visitors” appear to be dupes – same browser, platform and version – but with different ip addresses.

Thought it might be an attack at first but only the Visitor table is filling up, not the Visit table.

Have been using WP Statistics since 2014 and have never cleared down the database tables.

    Greetings, @arronrouse,

I trust you’re in good spirits.

It appears that the current concern may stem from certain automated bots and crawlers. Thus, I recommend navigating to the subsequent pathway and considering the utilization of available choices to hinder these bots:

WP Dashboard > Statistics > Settings > Exclusions

Employing these options might offer a resolution to the matter at hand. However, should this not yield the desired outcome, please don’t hesitate to reach out anew, and I’ll endeavor to identify an alternative remedy.

    Warm regards,

    Reza

    Hi Reza,

don’t think that’s it as thousands of visitors have been added to previous months and years!

“Last year” went from having a few thousand entries to 111,002. Don’t look at the stats that often so not sure when this started.

Happy to send you the table or tables if you want?

Hope you’re having a good day,

    Arron

P.S. This isn’t happening on my other server which was built more recently. It has the same plug-ins and gets around the same number of crawlers/bad-login-attempts.

P.S. The login page wasn’t in the exclusions. Have switched it off. Will see if it makes a difference and keep you posted.

OK, looks like it was bad login attempts after all. Zero visitor count since adding the exclusion. Which leaves the question:

Is there any way to remove those false visitors from the database? Fine with doing it in SQL if needed.

    Thanks for the help.

Indeed, WP Statistics doesn’t provide a built-in function to delete these records directly. Yet, you have the option to use a MySQL query to efficiently eliminate all such entries.

Feel free to reach out if you have any inquiries or require assistance.

    Best regards,
    Reza
