    Hey guys,

I’m using Koko Analytics in the “cookieless” mode. The pages and referrers table shows an identical count for visitors and pageviews – as I would expect when no cookie is set.

However, in the total count and the chart I see about 50% more pageviews than visitors (which actually seems about right).

Could you explain where this discrepancy comes from? How are the visitors counted when no cookies are set? And why do they show up in the total count, but not in the individual counts for the pages/referrers?

    Best regards!
    Daniel

    Hey Daniel,

The plugin checks the document.referer value which will contain the page you were coming from if clicking a link or reloading a page and staying in the same browser tab. Using this value the plugin can determine the following 2 things:

    – Whether the visitor is new or coming from another page on the website (unique visitor).
    – Whether the visitors is coming from the same page (unique pageview).

That’s where the discrepancy is coming from, without using any cookies.

Hope that helps. If not, let us know please.

One thing to add is that it looks like the second thing isn’t working reliably for you, or is it? If you’re on any page on your website and then refresh that page, the pageview should show no additional visitors but just one additional pageview. Can you confirm whether that is the case please?

    Hey Danny,

thanks for the clarification! And you’re right: I’ve just tested this and I get an additional visitor+pageview hit whenever I reload a specific page.

So that explains why both columns show the same count in the pages table – which confused me as this is not reflected in the chart and total counts, where they show different values.

I have uploaded a screenshot of my analytics dashboard here.

Let me know how I can help if you’d like to troubleshoot this.

It seems to be visitors that go from a homepage or category page to a post page.
Only the posts are shown in the table at the bottom at this time.

We will look into adding the homage there as well, maybe even category pages.

Hope that helps. If you have any questions, please let me know!
