    Hello,

I have a website that sells digital products (I tick the virtual and downloadable options).

When a user pays through Paypal in Paypal’s transaction details I see “We have no postal address on file”. This is a problem for me, because I use a system that creates invoices based on Paypal and I need the billing address of the user. Is there an option to get the user’s billing address so the invoicing system could work?

    Thank you

    Hi @johnnyyo,

PayPal orders do not contain a billing address, only a shipping address. If no dedicated shipping address was provided, PayPal Payments uses the billing address as a shipping address in the PayPal order.

But virtual products are handled without shipping at PayPal. So to get an address into the PayPal order, you would probably need to uncheck the virtual checkbox for the product.
An additional filter like this would then be needed to autocomplete “downloadable” product orders for payments via PayPal.

    I hope this helps!

    Kind regards,
    Niklas

    Thank you @niklasinpsyde

If we use this solution, will I have to then manually mark every order as shipped in Paypal?

Are there any other issues that not marking a digital product as virtual could cause? Could it expose me to money back guarantees and illegitimate refunds even though this is a digital product that doesn’t need to be shipped?

    Thank you

I’m not sure what other implications it could have if you don’t declare the virtual products as such. I suggest contacting the PayPal Merchant Support to clarify how you could best handle virtual products while managing customer address data in the PayPal system.

In any case, PayPal does not handle or store billing details within its order system, only shipping details. So it may be more reasonable to change the approach for invoicing.

    Kind regards,
    Niklas
