Viewing SQL database backup on mac, mirroring WP site on mac

Hi,

I have two related questions, and I’ve looked but not found the answers in the forums.

First, the installation instructions rightly warn us to backup our databases and then open the files to make sure they work.

But what program do you use to open an SQL database on a Mac?

Second, what program is best for running or saving a mirror of my site on my Mac? (I have seen some discussions for WIN computers, but haven’t found anything for Mac yet.)
